XXII Международен конгрес за византийски изследвания

Конгресът бе организиран от Асоциацията на византинистите и медиевистите в България под патронажа на Президента на Република България Георги Първанов и на министъра на културата Вежди Рашидов.
Проведе се под егидата на ЮНЕСКО. В него участваха над 1100 учени от 46 страни, сред които Русия, Франция, Германия, САЩ, Япония, Китай, Италия, Сърбия и Финландия.
Основната тема на конгреса “Византия без граници” породи дискусии относно мястото и ролята на хилядолетната империя и свързания с нея средновековен свят, както в миналото, така и в съвремието. Научната програма на конгреса даде възможност за съчетаване на традиционната проблематика с тематичното й обновление.
В рамките на конгреса в Националния археологически институт с музей при БАН се състоя изложбата “Еврапса. Скрипси. Аз писах” - това е изложба с 97 паметници с древни надписи.
В дните на форума се проведе панаир на книги от издателства от цял свят, както и на сувенири, свързани с тематиката на конгреса.
Сред съпътстващите изложби се открояваше „Сиянието на Византия” с ръкописи от Балканите в Националната галерия за чуждестранно изкуство. Тези изложби не само допълниха и разнообразиха научната програма, но и позволиха на широката публика да навлезе в един отдалечен във времето, но жив с наследството си и днес свят.

Staff at the registration desks were wonderful - courteous, helpful and efficient.
CIM confirmed my hotel booking a few days after I sent in my request. But the hotel voucher was not sent to me until a few days before the Congress. Why not send the voucher as confirmation of the hotel booking? In any case, there was no problem at my hotel. But again, communication could be improved.
