European Congress of Obesity (ECO 2014)

28.05.2014 - 31.05.2014

National Palace of Culture, Sofia
client: BASORD and Mirta Medicus

The number of people who are obese is rising rapidly throughout the world, making Obesity one of the fastest developing public health problems of our time. Indeed, the management of Obesity and its related disorders is now at the forefront of Government and Public Health initiatives across Europe. There is increasing concern within the European Union and the WHO Regional Office for Europe about Obesity and its co-morbidities such as Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, Cardiovascular Disease and Cardiometabolic Risk and Prevention.

Obesity is now seen as a major political and health issue in Europe and the European Congress on Obesity (ECO) provides an essential platform for discussion on the latest scientific developments in the field. The objectives of the ECO are:
- to provide an annual forum for the dissemination of information about state of the art research in the field of obesity;
- to foster the identification of innovative preventive and treatment strategies to reduce the prevalence of obesity and its associated burden of diseases;
- to provide networking opportunities for experts in the field of obesity research and management.

The target audience for ECO is clinicians, scientists, allied health professionals working in the field of obesity research and education, opinion leaders and advocacy groups.
The first European Congress on Obesity (ECO) took place in Stockholm in 1988. ECO now takes place on an annual basis and attracts thousands of international delegates.
